The Gold Industry Group hosted a focus group with Goldfields’ locals and members yesterday to decide on key trail locations and unique stories to tell via its Kalgoorlie Heart of Gold Discovery Trail to be launched at a community event on Saturday 9 June 2018.
It will be the nation’s second virtual gold trail to feature on the free Heart of Gold Australia app, providing an interactive and engaging experience for students, tourists and the wider community to connect with Australia’s gold story, revealing the regions significance to the development of Western Australia.
Saracen Mineral Holdings Managing Director Raleigh Finlayson said Saracen was proud to support such an exciting, long-term educational initiative as the major sponsor and the community’s involvement was key to its success.
“Through Kalgoorlie’s Heart of Gold Discovery Trail, we want to give trailblazers a unique insight into the history and importance of gold to the region,” said Mr Finlayson.
“In collaboration with the local community we can bring the towns golden history to life through untold stories at historic locations.
“Content will be delivered in a fun and interesting way combining technology with the outdoors, using widgets, augmented reality, video, photographs, games and more via the Heart of Gold Australia app,” he concluded.
The focus group will be held at the Hannans Club in Kalgoorlie to discuss the feedback from a member and community survey.
Kalgoorlie’s Heart of Gold Discovery Trail will be a self-guided walking trail through the town that will foster a sense of place and enhance visitor enjoyment. Points of interest in the region will also feature on the Heart of Gold Australia app.
The trail aims to inspire the community to be active and explore the outdoors. Educating the next generation is a strong focus, with a school program being developed in conjunction with the trail and aligned to the Australian Curriculum.
· Perth’s Heart of Gold Discovery Trail will also provide a strong link to Kalgoorlie, enticing visitors to visit the region.
The launch of the trail adds weight to Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s 125th anniversary celebrations as we remember one of the biggest gold rushes in Australia’s history.
The industry is throwing its support behind the long-term community initiative with Saracen Mineral Holdings, Northern Star Resources, Ausdrill, Silver Lake Resources and Mining Education Australia securing sponsorship.
